The El Paso affiliate of Rebuilding Together was started in 1991 by the Junior League of El Paso as “Christmas in April”. In 1995 it became completely self-supporting and independent. Christmas in April-El Paso, Inc. became an affiliate of the greater national organization, Rebuilding Together. To date, over 850 homes of El Paso low income elderly and/or disabled homeowners have been rehabilitated and revitalized with the help of hundreds of volunteers. The lives of hundreds of low income people have been touched by repair services to Community Centers and Shelters for Homeless people.
In addition to our annual Rebuild Day, assistance by the El Paso affiliate has become a year-round effort in meeting the ever growing needs of El Paso’s most needy. In 2000 the national organization, recognizing the growing needs of low-income homeowners, expanded its mission to provide more year-round services and a greater diversity of services, all focused around the core of goal of rehabilitation and revitalization. With the expanded mission came a new name, a name that reflects the work and the partnership approach used by our organization. Today various service modules are underway in many communities, among them emergency services, home modifications, weatherization, and non-profit facility repair. |
